Evimize bir köpek almak, hayatımızı renklendiren ve sevgi dolu anılar biriktirmemizi sağlayan harika bir deneyim olabilir. Ancak, köpek sahiplenmek önemli bir karar ve bazı hazırlıklar gerektirir. Maddi, sosyal ve psikolojik faktörleri göz önünde bulundurmak büyük önem taşır. Ev yaşantımıza ve enerji seviyemize uygun bir ırk seçmek, köpeğin yaşam alanını düzenlemek ve ona yeterli zaman ve sevgi sunmak gereklidir. Bu yazıda, köpeğe hazır olmak, yaşam alanı ve ırksal faktörler ile psikolojik etkenlere değineceğiz. Haydi, birlikte bu keyifli konuya dalalım!
Köpek Sahiplenmeye Hazır Olmak
Önce şu soruyu kendimize sormalıyız: Biz buna hazır mıyız? Psikolojik anlamda, maddi anlamda, sosyal anlamda ve yaşadığımız bölge anlamında… Bunların her biri birbiriyle ilintili bağlantılar. Maddi anlamda yetersiz bir noktada isek, köpeğimize yeterli derecede sağlık ve beslenme imkanı sağlayamayız. Sosyal anlamda yeterli alana ve zamana sahip değilsek, köpeğimize yeterli derecede zaman ayıramayız. Özellikle köpeğimize ayırdığımız zaman oldukça önem taşıyor. Onun bir canlı olduğunu hiçbir zaman unutmamamız gerekiyor. Eğer sosyal yaşantınız içerisine köpeğinizi dahil etmezseniz, bir süs balığından farkı kalmaz – ki bakımı en kolay evcil hayvanlar içerisine giren balığa bile zaman ayırmanız gerekiyor. Yemini vermeniz, suyunu değiştirmeniz ve akvaryumunu temizlemeniz gerekiyor.
Ancak köpekler özel ilgi bekler. Aynı insanlar gibi düşünebiliriz onları. Köpek sahiplenmeye karar verirken onlara yeterli miktarda sosyal alan ve sosyal zaman sağlama imkanınız olup olmadığını gözden geçirmelisiniz. Sonrasında yaşam alanına dikkat etmelisiniz. Köpeğin yaşayacağı alanın yeterli donanımlara sahip olması gerekiyor. Evde yaşıyorsa, evde yaşadığı alanın ona göre belli bir konumu olması gerekiyor. Yatacağı yerden, yemek yiyeceği yere, evin içerisinde zaman geçireceği alanlara kadar belirlenmesi ve düzenlenmesi gerekiyor. Irksal anlamda da bu alanlar farklılık gösterebiliyor. Kangal veya Danua gibi bir hayvanın apartman dairesinde saatlerce kapalı olarak yaşaması pek mümkün değildir. Uzun saatler evde yalnız kalan köpeklerde bazı davranış bozuklukları ortaya çıkabiliyor.
Köpeğin Yaşam Alanı ve Irksal Faktörler
Köpeklerin ırklarına göre ev yaşamını değerlendirirsek, sosyal yaşantınıza göre bir köpek sahiplenmeniz gerekli. Örneğin yürümeyi çok fazla sevmiyorsanız ve hareketli bir sosyal yaşantınız yoksa öncelikli olarak köpek sahiplenip sahiplenmemek konusunda iyice düşünmeniz gerekiyor. Bu şekilde bir yaşama sahipseniz, enerjisini daha çabuk ırkları düşünmelisiniz. Daha hızlı enerjisini atabilen ve ev ortamına daha hızlı adapte olabilen bir köpek seçmelisiniz. Örnek vermek gerekirse Rus Pekinası, hareketli hayvanlardır ancak ev ortamına çok daha kolaylıkla uyum sağlayabilirler. King Charles, iyi bir eğitimle eve çok hızlı adapte olabiliyor, sadece belirli ihtiyaç noktaları çözüldükten sonra, ufak çaplı oyunlarla hızlı bir şekilde enerjisini atabiliyor. Ancak yine küçük ırklar içerisinde Beagle ya da Cocker gibi ırklardan bahsedersek günün en az 4 saatini dışarıda geçirmeyi göze almak zorundasınız.
Büyük ırklara gelirsek, en yaygın olan Husky, Golden Retriever, Alman Kurtları (bildiğimiz diğer ismi ile K9’lar), Belçika Marino, San Bernard gibi büyük ırklarda bir köpeğin enerjisini atabilmesi için günde en az 4-5 saat enerji atabilme imkanı vermelisiniz. Bunun için, uykundan fedakârlık etmen lazım, bunun sonucunda kışın üşümeyi, yazın ise terlemeyi göze almanız lazım. Çünkü köpeğinize yeterli derecede bir konfor alanı sağlayamazsanız, yaşadığı alan haricinde sosyal alanda da hem köpek açısından hem de köpek sahibi açısından bir süre sonra bir işkence noktasına dönüşmeye başlıyor. Köpek yeterli derecede enerjisini atamadığı zaman, evde farklı problemlere yönelmeye başlıyor. Enerjisini atabilmek için köpekler genelde çenelerini kullanırlar. Bunun için de eşyaları kemirmeye başlıyorlar. Kumandalar, terlikler, ayakkabılar, çoraplar, mobilyalar bu süreçte harap olabiliyor. Bu nedenle sosyal ortamın çok büyük etkisi var.
Köpek Sahiplenmede Psikolojik Faktörler
Toparlayacak olursak ekonomik durum, köpeğin yaşam standartları ve köpeğin ırkı belirleyici faktörler olabilmektedir. Ancak ayrı bir konu olarak psikolojik bağlamda köpek sahiplenmeye uygun olup olmadığınızı da belirlemelisiniz. Örneğin agresif yapıda, çabuk sinirlenebilen bir yapıya sahipseniz, kesinlikle koruma, av, saldırma güdüsü çok yüksek olan bir köpek sahiplenmeniz ruhsatsız bir silah dolaştırmaktan çok da farklı olmayacaktır.
En uysal ve en sakin olarak görülebilen bir hayvan bile çok saldırgan bir yapıya dönüştürülebilir. Bu ufak ırklardan tutun da büyük ırklara kadar geçerli bir kavramdır. Rottweiler ve Pitbull gibi hayvanların saldırganlık yapısı aslında maalesef yanlış insanların elinde olmasından kaynaklıdır ve bu nedenle Türkiye’de yanlış tanınırlar. Belli insanlar kendilerini tatmin edebilmek için, bu köpekleri saldırma, korkutma amaçlı veya dövüştürme amacı ile kullandılar. Köpek bir insanın yani sahibinin zaten aynasıdır. Köpekler sahibinin karakterini bire bir alırlar ve dışarıya o şekilde yansıtırlar.
