Dünyadaki nerdeyse her kültürün bir öğesi olan atlar, bizim kültürümüz için farklı bir öneme sahiptir. Türk kültüründeki en önemli motiflerden birisi olan atlar, kutsal sayılan ve el üstünde tutulan canlılar olmuştur.
Öylesine kutsal ve özel olarak bilinen atlara bu kutsallığın atfedilmesinde, her türlü durumda insanların yanında ve yardımında olmaları önemli bir rol oynamıştır. Atlar hakkında
Atlar, dünya üzerindeki en büyük memeli familyalarından bir tanesidir. Dişi atlara kısrak denirken erkek atlara aygır denmektedir. Bunun yanında yavru atlara tay denirken kısırlaştırılmış atlara ise beygir adı verilmektedir.
Ortalama olarak 20-30 sene arasında bir ömre sahip olan atlar, insanlardan 18 adet fazla kemiğe sahiptir. Hepsi otçul olan bu muhteşem canlılar geviş getirmezler. Üç parmaklı geniş tırnaklı ayaklarına ise toynak adı verilmektedir.
Atların kendilerine has yürüyüş şekilleri vardır. Bu yürüyüş veya koşuş tarzı “adeta, tırıs, rahvan, eşkin ve dörtnal” olarak sıralanmaktadır. Normal şartlarda atlar, en hızlı oldukları dörtnala halinde koşarken 25-30 km hızla yol almaktadır. Ancak tarihte ölçülen en hızlı at 70.76 km/s ile koşarak, tarihe adını altın harflerle yazmıştır.
20-30 senelik bir ömre sahip olan atlar, 15 yaşına kadar gebe kalabilmektedir. Hamilelik dönemleri 11 ay süren atlar, doğduktan hemen sonra annelerini takip ederek yürümeye başlamaktadır.
Atlar’ın davranışları
Atlar, müthiş bir zekaya sahip olan ve zekice davranışlarla görenleri hayrete dahi düşürebilen zeki ve muhteşem canlılardır. Efsanelerde ve masallarda yer almalarında büyük bir rolü olan zekaları en çok önem çıkan davranışları olmaktadır.
Üstün zekalarının yanı sıra atlar, kendileri kadar muhteşem seviyede duygusal bir yapıya sahiplerdir. İnanılmaz derecede gelişmiş sadakat yetileri, sahiplerine olan bağları onlardan etkilenmeye tek başına sebep olabilecek durumdadır.
Atlar sosyal canlılar olarak, arkadaşlık kurmaya kendilerini mecbur gören ve arkadaşları olan canlılardır. Vahşi hayatta sürü halinde dolaşan atlar, genlerinden gelen bu özellikleri hala sürdürmektedir. Diğer atlarla birlikte otladıklarında veya sürü halinde koştuklarında atların daha mutlu ve daha sağlıklı oldukları araştırmalarca kanıtlanmıştır.
Tayların hızlıca öğrenebilmek kabiliyetlerinin altında tamamen taklit yeteneği yatmaktadır. Sürü halinde yaşayan atlarda, dünyaya gelen taylar, sürü içerisindeki davranışları taklit etmekte bu sadece hızlıca temel hareketleri ve davranışları hızlıca öğrenip uygulayabilmektedir.
Öğrenmek adına tayların sergilediği davranışlar sadece taklitle sınırlı kalmamaktadır. İnceleme davranışı adı altında sürekli olarak çevresindeki nesneyi incelemek adına taylar, ısırma, koklama, vurma, tekmeleme ve yalama gibi davranışlar sergileyebilir.
Atlar birbirlerine temas etmeyi seven canlılardır. Duygularını bu şekilde ifade edebilen atlar, sevgi göstermek amacıyla temas etmektedir. Kendi aralarında sevgi gösterme, koruma isteği ve keyiflendiklerinde bu hareketi gerçekleştirmektedirler. Bunun yanı sıra insanlara karşı bu hareketi yaptıklarında o kişiyi tanıdığı ve sevdiği çıkarımını elde edebiliriz.
